Album Of My Week

7th - 14th March

Calvin here..

This week, we are going to feature a British band..

The Maccabees are a 5 piece indie band from Brighton. They sound like great indie bands such as Bloc Party, Joy Division etc. I love how their guitars are mixed and the drumming is insane as well. Once you can get past the singer’s accent, you’d start to realize the true prowess of this well constructed sound The Maccabees have created. This is their first album, Colour It In. It was released in 2007 but contains their singles and hits dating back to 2004! Listen especially to “Precious Time”, “Latchmere” and “X-Ray”.

1st - 7th March

Counting Crows. More well known for their more pop-ish songs like Big yellow taxi and Accidentally in love, are anything but cheap, cheesy or common. They surprised me when i first hit the space bar. With their sound that occasionally dips into jazz and their melodies that seem to blend together effortlessly, their music took me on a journey from song to song. I love when that happens. Adam Duritz’s voice flows along with the songs as they go from cheerful and upbeat to dark and depressed.

These guys have been around since I was born, in 1991. As usual, there’s only so much I can tell you about their music. Click the album art and have a taste for yourself.

Cheers, Adin.

22nd - 27th Feb

Hello people of tumblr. I’m Adin. This week, I bring you music in the form of…

The Arctic Monkeys with their album titled Favourite Worst Nightmare.

The monkeys have been recording albums since 2006, but started off touring England doing gigs to spread the word of their music while giving out their EP for free. Thats what you call passion.

Favourite Worst Nightmare is the monkey’s 2nd studio album and is, in my opinion, their best album. A word of caution, these songs can and will get lodged deep in your skull and stay there for a matter of weeks if not a month or more. If not, then i guess its’ just me.

This album will make you feel like dancing. Even though the album is mostly upbeat, there is a melancholic tinge to certain songs. Songs like Teddy Picker and D is for Dangerous will get you off your chair and on your feet, while songs like Only Ones Who Know or 505 could remind you of times past.

All in all, if you’re not already a fan of the Arctic Monkeys, be warned. You just might be converted. So don’t hesitate, click on the link and enjoy.

Bringing you more good stuff soon, Adin.

Here’s the first AOMW, 15th-21st Feb 2010

First Impressions Of Earth(2006) - The Strokes.

The Strokes really put in me in a nice place, somewhere in between the ironic happiness vibe that Julian Casablancas sings in. His crooning voice, and the brilliant guitar work from Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. never fail to amaze me. This is their 3rd studio album. They are scheduled for a September 2010 release of their 4th album!

Hi everyone,

I’ve decided to start this tumblelog, Album Of My Week.

This blog will include the album that i’m listening to, what it’s like, and maybe a means to get the album.

I’m still schooling, so this is going to be a weekly update. But i assure you, the albums are going to be rock-solid.

Cheers,
Calvin Joseph Phua
